Married now for almost 7 years, it was only a few months ago (after 2 long years of research) that I was able to put a name on what is wrong with my husband. Over the last 2 years, his mental health has taken a steep nose dive into the Paranoid. I have since read and studied everything I can about PPD, which has provided me with some empathy. The problem is (to be expected in PPD) that my husband ABSOLUTELY is POSITIVE that it ISN'T him.................however, he is growing more violent, breaking and throwing anything. When he gets in these rages he has no self control, whatsoever, and is certain that I am the cause. I am constantly berated for being "fat, lazy, sneaky, stealing his money, cheating on him, etc" all of which are not true.
Every morning he wakes up screaming at me for the horrible things HE DREAMT I DID. I don't know what to do. I love my husband very much, but can't continue on this way. So, I guess my question is this: How can I get him to see himself as he really is, that he does have a personality disorder? I can't seem to jump this very important hurdle, and his family is of no help. How can I get him help without involving the police? |

| why don't you give him an ultimatum_ get help or you'll leave him. if that doesn't work, why not leave? do you really want to continue putting up with an abusive relationship? if so, do you need help as well? |

| Has he ever been to see a doctor? Paranoia may be a symptom of something else, such as an insidious neurological problem. It may be a good idea to take him to a neurologist, particularly if these behaviors are relatively new (2 years may not seem new, but it can be depending on your age). Enlisting his cooperation to see a neurologist may be easier than asking him to see a psychologist, and you can rule out any disease process before deciding that its PPD. |
