I have known that I am not quite right for a long time, and I have been told I have low self esteem and that I am depressed but I feel good about my self and get along with people I know. I have trouble trusting people and I am very uncomfortable in social situations. I was reading about depression on the internet yesterday and came across some stuff about avoidant personality disorder and I read other people's stories and they could be me. Has anyone been able to over come these problems and what did you do. I recently met a girl that I really liked and that I was able to talk to I ended up pushing her away because I was scared to get to close to her. I have no freinds and I am not able to keep a job. I have been told more than once by supervisors that I am a good worker but that I need to talk more to coworkers.

What you're describing sounds a lot like myself. I've spent months trying to find if there was anything wrong with me. I've been to see my doctor due to getting Panic Attacks and been to see a councillor.

My doctor said my Panic Attacks were stress related and also from anxiety which cannot be helped as such. It helped me having this information though, because I finally knew what was wrong and I could learn ways to overcome it. But, recently I have found myself becoming extremely paranoid about most things... but especially in social situations.

If what you're describing is really getting you, I suggest you go to see someone about it. Even just knowing what may be wrong, can help enormously. I wouldn't diagnose your self though because quite often, people will be led to believe they have something that is completely irelevant.
Councillors can be good and they've experienced talking to others in your situation so know exactly how to help. It might help you come to realise the cause of you feeling like this which is the first step of overcoming it.

I hope you recieve the help you need.
